Glass Pony

I make the art that I make because I love to go to that place, far away from my day to day stuff and create something beautiful. I’m drawn to working with glass because of the ever changing qualities of the medium. Depending on the light it always looks different. I also paint but use many layers of glazes that have that same transparent glasslike look. So, I guess that see-through opalescent quality is what floats my boat. Looking through the image into what is beyond can be very powerful and illuminating.

I like to include the sense of nature that surrounds us so therefore each piece may have images from the plant and animal world. I try to let each piece evolve as it needs and speak a language of its own, whether it be humorous, emotional, or sensual. Vibrant color is apparent in all my work and usually something shiny, copper, gold, or silver. Glass has been my primary medium since 1972 and painting has always been the inspiration behind it.

I have always created art, from the time I was a small child sitting with my crayons and drawing horses of many colors. Drawing took me away on many journeys and still does.

I create with glass because it is so beautiful but it doesn’t always have to be in a cathedral window and looked at on Sundays only. Everyone can enjoy beauty in their own space and I like to be a part of that.

My work can be seen at Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery on the Pearl Street Mall and at www.glassponydesigns.com
